The section of Evolutionary Biology is organized into independent groups with expertise in population genetics, molecular ecology, functional genomics and statistical genetics. We address long-standing questions in evolutionary biology using experimental, theoretical, and computational approaches in a variety of organisms. We also apply evolutionary theory to problems from related fields (e.g. medicine or conservation biology) often in cooperation with local and international partners. Our section is also responsible for teaching in the area of evolutionary biology at the bachelor and master levels. We participate in the international Evolution, Ecology and Systematics (EES) and the Erasmus Mundus Evolutionary Biology (MEME) master programs, and are responsible for graduate student education in the fields of our strength.
