We are always happy to hear from potential students and postdocs, who are interested in joining in the group, to work on butterflies, ants and/or other species. Feel free to contact me to discuss ideas and possibilities.

Postdocs. There are many opportunities for postdoctoral fellowships to work in Munich, including:
Humboldt Foundation
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions
DFG (German Science Fundation)
Human Frontiers Science Program

I am always happy to discuss potential projects and support applications to these, and of course other, sources of funding by people whose interests overlap with those of the group.

PhDs. We occasionally advertise open PhD positions on already funded projects. Other opportunities for potential PhD students include:

LSM-DAAD scholarships
• Other DAAD scholarships
Studienstiftung

Interested potential PhDs should get in contact early to discuss possibilities. If you have a particular idea, and are up for a bit of work, another possibility is to write a DFG grant together.

Bachelors and Masters projects. If you are interested in our research, you may consider doing a research project or writing your master thesis with us. We frequently take on students from the LMU BSc program, as well as the EES and MEME masters program.

Feel free to contact me by email, or drop by my office (B01.003).

Munich and the department of biology.
The division of evolutionary biology (and the broader Munich EvoGen community) includes broad expertise across evolutionary biology and genomics. We pride ourselves on our ‘flat’ hierarchy, as well as being a friendly community. The wider department includes an array of behavioural biologists and is particularly strong in neurobiology. We also have links with the MPI, located on the same campus, and in particular the International Max Plank Research School – Biological Intelligence, which provides broader training for our students.

LMU is frequently ranked amongst the top research universities worldwide. It is situated in Munich, a beautiful, green and highly international city located in the heart of Europe, close to the Alps and other major European centers of cultures (e.g. Prague, Italy and Vienna). And it is among most liveable cities in Europe!

The working language of the division is English.
